Posted by Eric Morgan on 13th Mar 2014

In use for centuries, mirrors serve many purposes, whether purely decorative or to analyze reflections. In the practice of feng shui, mirrors bring the energy of water. This practice also uses mirrors to focus on Chi energy, expanding space and focusing on the positive.

In feng shui, proper mirror placement is believed to shift energy flow, bringing a sense of calmness. In feng shui, there are generally three categories of mirrors, which includes:

Typical Mirrors - These types of mirrors include oval mirrors, round mirrors and square mirrors. Frames can include metal or wood. Round mirrors adorned with an attractive antique gold leaf frames are tributes to wealth and should be placed in the southeast areas of homes.

Concave Mirrors - These are often used outside, giving an upside-down reflection.

Covex Mirrors - These have protective qualities and are generally used in outdoor areas.

Bagua Mirror - This is a powerful mirror that should never be placed or used inside a home.

There are several areas within the home to place mirrors. These areas depend upon the type of achievements and protection that are desired.

Southeast - Place mirrors in this area of the home if abundance and wealth are desired.

East - This placement benefits health and family.

North - If a healthy career and life path is desired, place mirrors in this area.

In feng shui practices, mirrors should never be placed in the following areas of a home.

South - This will effect reputation and fame.

Main Door - Never place a mirror on a wall that directly faces the main front door.

Bed - Mirrors should never be placed on walls that face the bed. It is believed that this placement depletes the body of personal energy, prohibiting the body from repairing itself when sleeping. Generally, oversized mirrors should be avoided in the bedroom, as this can create a strong energy that revolves around sorrow.

The following highlights general do's and don'ts for using mirrors in feng shui.

DO - Use mirrors to reflect beautiful views, dining and living areas and to open up spaces.

DON'TS - Don't use mirrors to reflect negative views, never place them in locations that will harm or cut energy and by no means use broken mirrors.
