Decor Trends That Define 2014

Posted by Eric Morgan on 30th Aug 2014

This year is already seeing defining home styles, with patterns and trends repeatedly showing up in showrooms and interior designs nationwide. The Oval and Round Mirror Store highlights the latest wall mirror trends that are dominating 2014 and will continue to do so this upcoming summer and fall.

  • Behold Jewels – Shiny chrome or brass blend well with agate, malachite and semi-precious stone countertops. Today’s kitchens are glamorous and highlight over-the-top elegance.
  • Brass – Making a huge comeback in bathrooms, brass bathtubs and sinks add instant class to antique or modern-style homes. To add refined style to bathrooms, add custom mirrors to radiate natural light. Simple mirror frames allow the brass fixtures to be the focal point of bathroom areas.
  • Honey Woods – Darker furniture is gradually phasing out in favor of lighter, fresh colors, such as honey tones in oak, walnut and cherry. This helps make rooms feel bright and refreshing. Pair across from custom mirrors for additional reflection and bright, airy appearances.
  • Turquoise – Greens and blues have gradually been making comebacks the last several years. Vivid pops of turquoise are showing up in home accents, including wall coverings, upholstery and furniture. Trends include going bold and painting walls turquoise, pairing with cream and brown tone furniture, or exploring bold furniture pieces and accents.
  • Hides – From fashion runways to showrooms, animal hides are the latest dominant trend. Real and faux hides are gracing chairs, sofas, consoles, tables, ottomans and even plush throws. Other popular additions include covering dining room chairs in soft, luxurious animal hides, giving dining rooms a spectacular focal point.
  • Indoors and Outdoors – More home designers and builders are seamlessly blending the lines between indoor and outdoor areas. Outdoor furniture now reflects more modern furniture styles and inventive all-weather fabrics have made it easy to relax in comfort outdoors. Consider adding outdoor lighting elements, an awning, coffee tables, cushions, pillows and plant accessories.
  • Ethic Prints – Exotic and eye-catching, this season embraces bold, controversial prints and exotic themes. These prints are ideal for breaking up monotony, adding color and texture to neutral color schemes.
  • Texture – Designers are looking to embrace warm, traditional textures. Corduroy and velvet are making appearances, gracing couches, settees and ottomans.
  • Floral – Floral textiles are rapidly gaining popularity, pairing well with gray-tone living room furniture. These colorful pops of floral artwork range in color from orange, red and white to stylish purple.
  • Glamour – Homeowners can embrace glamour by adding texture, character and mood to design elements, such as large wall mirrors. Consider pairing vintage mirrors with a combination of modern and antique styles for an upscale appearance.
  • Compatible – Designers recommend embracing compatible color combinations. For example, lively bright accents pair well with unsaturated undertones.
